Web Content Management System Software

what is web content management system softwareWhat is WCMS?

The Web Content Management System, or software, can actually be broken down into two parts, the web management platform and the software.

Each element is inclusive within it’s brand. WordPress is a brand, just as Drupal and Joomla are brands.

All WCMS software does the same thing essentially; it provides the web designer an easy to use environment to create and manage content, video and photos.

The software collects everything you input into a database which then spits it out onto a web page based on a theme.  That’s the best way I can describe it, and you can see how I use it in my WordPress Tutorial Videos Course.

There are two components.
1. The system
2. The software

The “delivery” system of each brand has it’s own characteristics and is delivered to the user in it’s own package. WordPress packages it’s content and allows the user to build websites in a visual environment differently then Drupal for instance. The results are the same to the web visitor who simply sees the end result, but the way it was constructed may have been different.

Brands

WordPress is not the only free web authoring software an there is some competition out there. A few of the more popular ones include:
1. Drupal
2. Joomla
3. Expression Engine
4. Text Pattern
5. Cushy CMS

Web Design Software

what is the best web design softwareWhats the best web design software for the beginner? Of course this is not a trick question if I’m the one answering it because you already know my answer. But here’s the thing:

Pick something and “stick with it.” Period. Truth be told; anyone is more then capable of using notepad++ to design and build a web page if that’s your goal. You can use any of the above web development platforms as well to create a great site.

The question is:

  • What type of website do you want?
  • How much time are you willing to commit to the learning process?
  • What skills do you bring to the table?
  • What support is available?

Consider your answers moot because regardless of the web authoring tool you use to build your site, you are going to have spend some time and “learn” the software. Of course I recommend WordPress; I guess that’s because I’ve learned it. But if you choose Drupal or Joomla you need to commit to mastery as well. As with anything it will take time but must stick with it. Avoid running off and chasing after the new flavor of the week.

Please…if you’re brand new don’t jump around from software to that software. I do recommend you do your due diligence and research your options of course; but once you set your mind on a brand just dig in, go for it and stay focused.

It’s like anything else, everybody has their favorite and one person will tell you this, another person will tell you that. WordPress isn’t the most popular Web Content Management System Software simply by coincidence. It’s pretty awesome.

If you have found your way here chances are WordPress is your choice. You’re lucky because I’m going to show you how use WordPress and get the most out of it in my WordPress Training area. Take a look at some of my free training videos and watch how you can use this great piece of software.
